Refurbishment of the Santa Ana hacienda

Guillermo Vázquez Consuegra

The intervention takes place on an old hacienda that was in part in ruins and in part refurbished in a somewhat precarious manner to become the headquarters of the town’s municipal government. The proposal started with the criterion of selective conservation, that is, one that does not start out from the indiscriminate conservation of the old just because it is old, but from saving only those components of the existing construction whose architectural, historic or significant values justify this conservation. The more characteristic typological constants are in any case the object of meticulous consideration: the differentiation in the primitive hacienda of the two areas –the manor house and the working building—and the successive courtyards that punctuate the built-up whole.
