Residential building in Palma de Mallorca

BAAS ARQUITECTURA | JORDI BADIA

Description Technical file

The perforation of the built volume of the central sector on the chamfered corner and the use of the material from which the plinth is built as the compositional element in the ensemble of façades characterises this interesting building situated in the urban centre of Palma de Mallorca.

The building seeks to detect the materials, colours, proportion of openings and enclosures of the surrounding buildings to construct an architecture that seeks to integrate into its setting, using its same language despite its discordant volume, the result of the planning rules that govern this plot. The flats, one per floor, open up towards the southern corner to make the most of the orientation and the views over the park, the port and the ramparts. The communal spaces —staircase, entryway, etc.— are designed for endowing the building with convenient shared spaces. These spaces open up to the city to generate a ground floor that seeks to open up to the street in an engaging way, enhancing the gradual transition between the public space, the communal spaces and the flats.
