Turqueta Restaurant

Tarruella Trenchs Studio

Description Technical file

The use of a palette of materials and colours of natural and traditional characteristics, such as limewash in the interior, render on the exterior, wicker, fired clay and oak wood, characterises this interesting restaurant project in Valencia.
This restaurant from the Saona group is located on Gran Vía del Marqués del Turia in Valencia and, like all the establishments in the group, typically creates spaces with references.
In this case, the new restaurant called Turqueta, in reference to the well-known cove in Menorca, is situated in premises measuring 480m2, very deep but with the ground-floor presence of the porter’s lodge giving access to the building in the centre of the façade. This imposes a U shape, with two street entrances. There is a point of daylight in the back part thanks to a great roof light that generates a focus of spatial attention at the end.
The strong point of the project was reinforcing this idea of a courtyard at the end of the premises. With this aim in mind, the existing roof light was maintained and part of the forging of the annexe was demolished in order to create a new courtyard at the end of the dining room. This area applies a lighter-coloured palette than the rest of the establishments, together with materials of very natural characteristics. The annexe to the roof light has been given a wooden ceiling with wattle installed diagonally which, together with the fabric fans, create the image of a porch.
The continuous floor helps to unify the spaces; the false ceiling, made from acoustic foam slats placed in different directions, succeeds in breaking up the linearity of the premises while operating as the perfect sound absorber.
The decision to locate the kitchen, services and internal zones in the darkest area of the premises allows a central volume to be defined that, clad in a breakup of oak wood, operates as a point of union between the different areas.
The use of particular decorative elements in each one of the rooms differentiates them and brings a dynamic air to the restaurant as a whole. Ceramic plates manually made by two ceramists, Carme Balada and Eugenia Boscá, have been hung to bring the colour of the turqueta cove to the walls. In the private room, a wall with recovered Mallorcan doors in blue tones conceals the pantry.
