Casa Mimosa H10 Hotels

Tarruella Trenchs STUDIO

Description Technical file

This remarkable refurbishment brings brilliance to an exercise in transformation of use in which containment and sensitivity are particular highlights.
Casa Mimosa is the new hotel of the H10 hotel chain, located in a listed building on calle Pau Claris in Barcelona, situated in the same block as the Pedrera of which it has privileged views.
The premise for this new project consisted of designing a timeless hotel that would respect and integrate the building’s original elements, mixing them with contemporary pieces. To achieve this, natural colours and fine materials are used to bring elegance and a sense of comfort to each one of the spaces.
The great entrance door into the building gives way to the hotel reception, with an existing architecture remarkable for its coffering, marquetry-work floor, mouldings and stone skirting boards, integrating the new reception desks with a play of straight and sloping planes made from a combination of matt and gloss brass that fill the space with elegance and restraint.
The building’s main staircase retains all of its original elements: the handrails, the lamps and the lift, all of them unified in neutral, pleasant tones.
In the lounge and the restaurant, the brass panels enhance the double height, and the application of a mirror breakup in the ceiling duplicates it. This space also features elements recovered from the building such as the wall covering, the fireplace and the marquetry-work floor, elements that contribute to creating an ambience that breathes tradition and contrasts with the new elements.
Some low units in a classic design with iron and brass feet, lined in black stone and with walnut doors, operate as the surface for the breakfast buffet while dividing the room into two spaces and providing a more domestic appearance.
The waiters’ unit, with its large dimensions but very lightweight iron structure and crossed trays in different materials, walnut, iron and natural leather, operates as a storage element and provides an additional surface during breakfast.
The bar counter, with its stone-like characteristics and marquetry-work lining recovered from the building, stands out for its restraint. The brass and glass tumbler holder, with its play of luminaires, complements it with its lighter shape.
A compact, low-impact construction that uses economical and industrialised construction systems.
