New changing room building on the “La Barruana” football pitch

Carles Llinás

Description Technical file

The urban limit role played by the sector occupied by the “La Barruana” football pitch in Sant Vicenç dels Horts has been expertly incorporated into the strategies behind the design of the building housing the new changing rooms and corresponding grandstand.
This project, promoted by the town hall of Sant Vicenç dels Horts and undertaken by the Technical Services of the Barcelona’s Metropolitan Area, had the purpose of reforming and completing the sports facilities of the “La Barruana” football pitch that had hitherto consisted of changing rooms of obsolete characteristics and a playing field covered in “sauló” sand.
The project involved a three-phase action, of which the two corresponding to the laying of artificial turf and the construction of a new changing room building have been completed. This includes a grandstand seating two hundred people. The last phase will include the demolition of the old changing room building and completing the development of the sector that surrounds the site.
The action therefore consisted of designing a single changing room building and grandstand attached on the north side to the football pitch, on the limit situated between the residential and industrial zone where the facility is located, with the main access at first-floor level to facilitate the entrance of the public to the grandstand area. Its role as an urban limit conditioned the decision of erecting a building in continuity to the new site fencing in both formal and construction terms, choosing a single material, reinforced concrete with formwork of wooden slats.
The functional organisation of the spaces revolves around a vestibule situated on the access floor, which separates the circulations of players and public towards the grandstand and changing rooms situated on the ground floor. On the first floor, as well as the vestibule leading to the grandstand, are the administrative and management offices, the public toilets and a small bar which can be directly accessed from the street. In order to avoid having the public route going through the playing field, both the access and the exit from the pitch have been built on the first floor.
