TR House

Patricio Martínez y Maximià Torruella

Description Technical file

A continuous shell in ceramic lattice formed from vitreous pieces and mounted on a hanging stainless steel fabric shapes the personalised image of this family house located in Barcelona.
TR House is a family house of a compact typology whose volume is defined by the urban planning byelaws governing the plot. The result is a three-height volume standing on the plot at a lower level than the street and which establishes visual relations with the nearby riverbed while becoming visually integrated into the surrounding landscape.
The house is organised and structured around a courtyard located in the central part, which articulates all the rooms via a surrounding perimeter corridor. The different levels are articulated around a staircase that surrounds this space.
The building’s image seeks to provide a response through functionality for all the parameters that have been set out. On one hand, a continuous shell in ceramic lattice made from vitreous pieces seeks to achieve a unitary response to the needs generated by the setting, integrating the built volume into the context of the surrounding vegetation. Four different colours were used within a single range of greens in a quest for the different hues that the surrounding vegetation adopts in the course of the seasons and thus strengthening its integration into the garden.
The façade uses tongue-and-grooved slats in copper-treated chestnut wood whose openings are dimensioned and proportioned according to functional parameters for user convenience. The openings are fitted with a system of concealed adjustable aluminium slats that provide control over the sunlight while ensuring indoor comfort.
The external height differences are bridged in a way that succeeds in “stitching together” the accesses to the house’s two floors via a cobbled ramp made from granite pieces alternating with lawn.
In the front, a wooden platform is spread with the aim of prolonging the living-dining space towards the outside, generating a pleasant outdoor living space under the shade of the trees.
