Description Technical file

The introduction of the characteristic “wine cellar” concept, together with an interesting conjunction between an aggressive graphic design and a subtle use of the furniture, are the protagonists of this project for new premises in Barcelona’s port area.

PAN Y VINO, a wine and cava cellar establishment, is located on the top floor of the Maremágnum shopping centre in the Port of Barcelona. A wide selection of different wines and cavas can be tasted and purchased here, together with a menu of tapas and entrees.

The project sought to give centre stage to the bar and therefore situated it in the centre of the premises, freestanding and bringing life and dynamism to a reduced 36-m2 space. This bar is clad in oak slats and, as a counterpoint, the bar top is comprised of four different types of marble in the manner of the bars and bar tables of long ago. The glass holder, built from corrugated steel bars, gives fluidity and lightness to the bar, following it at different heights and able to store bottles and glasses.

The outstanding product in this establishment are the wines, and so two shelving units have been designed that help to configure the space, meeting the challenge of providing storage space for such small premises. Both elements are in natural crude steel. One of them consists of a lattice acting as a filter between interior and exterior. This means that bottles can be stored vertically thanks to a system also made from corrugated steel bars that occupy the entire floor-to-ceiling height of the premises, with welded washers that hold the bottles in place. This lattice also holds bottles in green and white glass with an LED in the base. These lamps give a welcoming warmth to the establishment.

The second shelving unit is also made from corrugated steel bars and occupies the entire wall opposite the lattice. Between the framework of the bars, the solid oak shelves become a base for all kinds of products: tins, kitchenware, bottles, etc, like a grocery store. The only hidden part of the establishment is the small kitchen enclosed between three walls painted to look like slate, which announce the establishment’s products.
