Best Office Award 2010

The Cologne fair, in collaboration with WirtschaftsWoche magazine, awarded for the fourth consecutive year the prize to outstanding office programmes produced in Germany and abroad. The winners of this edition were the offices of the solar energy company Solon SE of Berlin and the Voestalpine Stahl steel manufacturer of Linz, Austria. Both offices won for the quality of their design, but also for their determination to improve flexibility in the way the work is organised, the opening up of new communication routes and the increase of well-being and motivation of workers. Of the two award-winning projects, the judging panel emphasised their determination to foster intelligent interaction between the different rooms and to promote creative work, visible presence and equal opportunities. The two companies were awarded their prize during the Orgatec fair and photographs of both projects were displayed on the fair site.

Insight Cologne

15 of the most relevant and innovative work and communication spaces in Cologne opened their doors to around 1,500 participants, who had the opportunity to visit them personally. On show in the selected buildings were integral solutions for office buildings in which the latest trends have been integrated into everyday life. In the range of topics presented at each one of them there were from conceptions of 21st-century offices and workstations such as the Kranhaus to the configuration and fit-out of buildings such as the Intercontinental Hotel. Also included were green and sustainable buildings such as the Cologne Oval Offices or the refurbishment of buildings such as the maxCologne, the old Lufthansa building. Professionals were able to move from one building to another thanks to a network of coaches that the organisation placed at their disposal.

Ultima Office

Debating, reflecting and exchanging opinions occupied an outstanding place in the course of the fair. The Ultima Office trends forum brought together prominent experts from the fields of architecture, planning, sustainability, trade and research. An interdisciplinary exchange that permitted the in-depth examining of highly topical subjects such as sustainability and the intelligent configuration of offices and administrative spaces. The addresses or blocks lasted from 90 to 120 minutes and were divided into three and five brief presentations given by different experts, who spoke on aspects such as the symbiosis between light and space, how to plan day and artificial light in the office and light in architecture. Creativity and health in the office, how we will live and work in the future, the possibilities of change in use of offices from the point of view of the architects and the conception and configuration of offices in the public administration were some of the topics that were comprehensively debated.
