Design, art and architecture through ceramics

MAY/2018

Against the backdrop of the digital age, overrun by back-lit screens and increasingly complex and virtual realities, a new generation of craftspeople and designers are realising the pleasure of working with clay and bringing a fresh perspective towards ceramic production.

“New Wave Clay” is a global survey of 55 ceramicists leading this craft revival. In its 296 pages we find works of designers, architects, decorators, illustrators, sculptors and graphic designers who use clay as a means of creative expression. Their collective output goes far beyond traditional pots into the universe of furniture, sculpture, murals, wall reliefs, small-scale architecture and 3D printing.

The book is divided into four thematic sections: Joy, Simplicity, Structure and Nostalgia; besides, it features special contributions from Edmund de Waal, Hella Jongerius, Grayson Perry, Martin Brudnizki and Sarah Griffin discussing craft, industry, ornament, decorating and collecting.
