Maison et Objet 2017

The January edition of Maison et Objet Paris, the international biannual trade show for interior design and decoration, was attended by today’s most relevant firms in design and decoration, which showed their latest novelties in decoration, furniture, lighting, textiles, kitchenware and accessories for the home.

Since 2015 the trade show chooses a Creator of the Year associated with the session’s theme: a “product designer” profile in January and an “interior design” profile in September. For January 2017 the chosen designer is Pierre Charpin, who presented the PC Lamp developed in collaboration with Sébastien Wrong. Very simple in appearance, it took 3 years of work to make it market-ready owing to a complex articulation and an invisible technology.

In the last edition of the trade show the organisers decided to give a more prominent role to retail. For this sector to gain ground, the trade show opened for its visitors the “What’s New” space for analysing trends and good practices. As a complement to this section, a programme of debating workshops was offered in which to better understand the progress made in current distribution plus a selection of works relating to topics discussed in a Bookshop Café: an added value for retailers. It also premiered the “Le French Design, no taste for bad taste” operation through the creations of 26 relevant stand holders in the field of French furniture.

Another objective was to strengthen the MOM platform (, a new digital tool presented in September that offers the opportunity of finding a broad selection of the trade fair’s products online (more than 17,000). The complementary nature of the physical trade show, a presence on the social networks and the digital platform seeket to create an ecosystem that generates business, interactions and permanent contacts.
