EcoHelmet wins the James Dyson Award 2016

The winning project of this edition was EcoHelmet, a folding helmet especially designed for urban cyclists.

The product, designed by Isis Shiffer, a student of New York’s Pratt Institute, consists of a single cardboard honeycomb piece. Its biodegradable coating makes it resistant to rain by up to 3 hours. Furthermore, thanks to its fan-shaped design, it can be fully folded when not in use.

The central structure distributes any impact uniformly around the entire head surface in a similar way to traditional polystyrene helmets and the radial composition protects the user from a possible impact from any direction. The simplicity of its design, together with its economical materials, keeps production costs low.
