Living the Nordic Light

Based on interviews with four people over 100 years old who have lived all their lives beyond the Arctic Circle, the Norwegian architecture practice Snøhetta explores the effect of living with and in the absence of Nordic light, individual experiences connected with the indisputable presence of light, shadow and darkness, before and after the introduction of electricity, of people born at the start of the previous century. This is a generation that has witnessed changes with a hugely important physical impact on humanity in the western world: two world wars, evolution in transport, in energy supplies, revolutions, industrialisation and the introduction of the digital era. A new project by the Zumtobel Group which since 1992 has been commissioning renowned architects, designers and artists to give artistic expression to its perception of the light.
