After passing through Granada’s Carlos V Palace, New York’s Cooper Union, the old ambassador’s residence in Washington, Construmat Barcelona and the Niemeyer Centre in Avilés, Alternativas/Alternatives went to Madrid, the city where the itinerary of this travelling exhibition concluded.

The show featured the 22 prize-winning projects in the section comprising works and actions on Heritage, Urban Planning and Innovation of the 8th Spanish Architecture and Urbanism Biennial (BEAU) plus the 20 shortlisted works as well as the 59 selected proposals. All of them represent the architectural and urbanistic production undertaken in recent years by Spanish architects, dominated by domestic and small-scale interventions rather than major projects, public investments in fit-outs and urban planning.

They are projects that come up with clever and innovative urbanistic solutions with limited resources. They constitute contributions that improve the urban and landscape settings in which they are located, with proposals that address the problems and available resources and have the capacity to become benchmarks of a context and witnesses of their time.
