Exhibition of the Girona Regions Architecture Awards 2017

The Catalonia Architects’ Association (COAC) is organising a travelling exhibition that seeks to bring to the population a compilation of the best architecture built in the Girona regions in 2016, although one of the categories includes works dating back more than 10 years. In total, the show features a selection of 43 projects chosen from the 91 candidatures entered for the awards. Prominent among them are the 7 prize-winning works in their respective categories: “Dues cases de suro a Palafrugell” (Two cork houses in Palafrugell) by Emiliano López and Mònica Rivera and “Casa davant el mar al Port de la Selva” (House facing the sea in Port de la Selva) by Xavier Martí and Lucía Ferrater in the “Architectures” category; “Radiador de Llum a Banyoles” (Light Radiator in Banyoles) by Eduard Callís, Guillem Moliner and Jesús Bassols in the “Interiors” category; “Cuques de llum a Olot” (Fireflies in Olot) by Jordi Hidalgo in the “Landscapes” category; “Dèdal a Girona” (Maze in Girona) by Laia Escribà, Oriol Granyer and Miquel Prats in the “Ephemerals” category; and “Rehabilitació de 83 cases sobre el riu Onyar a Girona” (Refurbishment of 83 houses above the river Onyar in Girona) by Fuses-Viader Arquitectes in the “More than 10” category”. The “Opinion Prize” chosen directly by the public during the exhibition staged in Girona went to the refurbishment and enlargement of a family house in La Tallada d’Empordà, by Montserrat Nogués and Manel Bosch.

The Girona Regions Architecture Awards are bestowed by the COAC since 1997, and so this is their twentieth edition. Along the way they have been gaining increasing social recognition. Both the prize-winning and shortlisted works in all editions are included in a database on contemporary architecture in the Girona regions, which at this time has collected around five hundred works that can be consulted online (

After a period at Girona’s COAC headquarters, the exhibition has now travelled to Olot and will later open in Figueres before returning to Girona, this time the Carles Rahola Library. In Olot, the venue for the show is the Hospital d’Olot i Comarcal de la Garrotxa, where it will remain until 23 November 2017.
