Dialogues on the new environments we inhabit

The ‘21st-Century Interiors’ series seeks to analyse the changes in the design of the environments we inhabit in this century so far. Through an overview of different space typologies—domestic, work, health, learning and trade—it will examine how the interior space has undergone a radical transformation in the last sisteen years. Architects, designers, engineers, artists, sociologists, philosophers, pedagogues and other professionals, each one in their own discipline, are joining a common project: to make more habitable the structures in which we live our lives.

The architect Miguel Barahona is the curator and moderator of the series, which is organised by Roca Madrid Gallery.

The first session, ‘Keys to the new domestic space’ was held on Thursday 10 November and dealt about the emergence of new materials and techniques as well as a new sensibility and a new narrative that have modified the way we understand the citizens’ relationship with their environment.

At the second session of ‘Keys to the new workspace’ (on 1 December at 7 pm), a group of experts will talk about how the design of the workspace has evolved to adapt to new needs and about the value of interior design as a tool for transformation. Participating in the event will be Teo Manzano, Marketing and Product Development Director of Steelcase; Diana do Rio, architect and Design Director at Quanto Arquitectura, and Mariano García, architect and national Design&Build director at CBRE Arquitectura.
